Whisky and Honey Goat Cheese Crostini

Crunchy toasted baguette slices topped with a creamy blend of goat cheese, honey and a splash of whisky – this simple yet flavour-packed snack brings a perfect balance of sweet, savoury and warming notes. Finished with a sprinkle of fresh thyme, each bite delivers a smooth, rich topping on a crisp base, with the whisky adding just the right depth and warmth.

Ideal as a pre-dinner nibble, a relaxed canapé for guests, or part of a weekend grazing board, these crostini are as at home at a casual kitchen gathering as they are at a festive celebration. Serve warm from the oven, perhaps with a dram of your favourite single malt, and enjoy the effortless charm of this easy-to-make, crowd-pleasing starter.

 Ingredients:

  • 1 small baguette, sliced into 12 rounds
  • 100g soft goat cheese
  • 1 tbsp whisky
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp chopped fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Arrange the baguette slices on a baking tray and toast for 5 minutes on each side.
  2. In a small bowl, mix goat cheese, whisky, and honey until smooth.
  3. Spread the mixture on the toasted baguette slices.
  4. Sprinkle with thyme, if using, and serve immediately.

Tips & Variations:

  • Use cream cheese as a substitute for goat cheese.
  • Top with a few chopped walnuts or dried cranberries for extra texture.

In these recipes we haven’t specified the whisky to use, as you know what you like best, and it also allows you to experiment.

However, if you want a start, a good light, vanilla forward single malt to use would be The Glasgow Distillery’s Original. If you are looking to add some smokey depth, try The English Smokey, or if you want something fruity, try Arran Sherry Cask ‘The Bodega’.
