Whisky & Maple Bacon Bites

Crispy streaky bacon glazed with rich maple syrup, a splash of whisky, and a crack of black pepper – these bites are sticky, savoury, and just a little bit indulgent. As they bake, the glaze caramelises to perfection, giving each strip a glossy finish and irresistible crunch.

Ideal for sharing at parties, serving with cocktails, or sneaking straight from the tray, these bacon bites are quick to make but packed with bold, sweet-savoury flavour. Try them with a smoky whisky or add a pinch of cayenne for a fiery kick. They won’t last long.

 Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of streaky bacon

  • 2 tbsp whisky

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (180°C fan). Line a baking tray with foil and place a wire rack on top.

  2. In a small bowl, mix whisky, maple syrup, and black pepper.

  3. Lay the bacon slices on the wire rack and brush both sides with the whisky mixture.

  4. Bake for 15–18 minutes, turning halfway through, until crispy and caramelised. Let cool slightly before serving.

Tips & Variations:

  • Use turkey bacon for a leaner alternative.

  • Add a pinch of cayenne for a spicy twist.

In these recipes we haven’t specified the whisky to use, as you know what you like best, and it also allows you to experiment.

However, if you want a start, a good light, vanilla forward single malt to use would be The Glasgow Distillery’s Original. If you are looking to add some smokey depth, try The English Smokey, or if you want something fruity, try Arran Sherry Cask ‘The Bodega’.
