Whisky-Soaked Fig and Cheese Bites

Sweet, chewy figs soaked in whisky for a rich, warming kick, topped with a bold bite of blue cheese and finished with a crunchy walnut half. These simple yet sophisticated bites bring together sweet, savoury and boozy flavours in one perfectly balanced mouthful – with creamy cheese, nutty crunch and a hint of indulgence from the whisky.

Ideal for easy entertaining, these fig and cheese bites make a great addition to any cheeseboard, pre-dinner platter or festive spread. They’re quick to prepare, but deliver big on flavour – perfect with a glass of whisky or a bold red wine. Swap the blue cheese for brie or goat’s cheese if you prefer something milder, or try with dates for a sweeter twist.

 Ingredients:

  • 8 dried figs
  • 2 tbsp whisky
  • 100g blue cheese (e.g., Stilton)
  • 8 walnut halves

Instructions:

  1. Soak the figs in whisky for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the figs remain coated in whisky.
  2. Slice each fig in half and place a small piece of blue cheese on top.
  3. Garnish with a walnut half.
  4. Serve as a quick, flavourful snack or appetiser.

Tips & Variations:

  • Use goat cheese or brie if blue cheese is not to your taste.
  • Substitute figs with dates for a sweeter option.

In these recipes we haven’t specified the whisky to use, as you know what you like best, and it also allows you to experiment.

However, if you want a start, a good light, vanilla forward single malt to use would be The Glasgow Distillery’s Original. If you are looking to add some smokey depth, try The English Smokey, or if you want something fruity, try Arran Sherry Cask ‘The Bodega’.
