Dan Humphrey (Summerton Whisky Club Founder) poses the question for industry expert, Mark Westmorland (Wolfburn Global Brand Ambassador):

What whisky would you give to a friend as their first bottle? And why?

“Be a thoughtful gifter I say. Is there any connection with the person and a distillery? A relative, hometown spirit, a place they have visited and regaled the experience. If so, try and source a bottle of something that wee bit different. Hopefully share a dram with them upon its presentation as well to cement the memory and explain why you chose the particular expression. Make a lasting moment that you can remember forever.

If not, what is your budget? Do you know their tastes. Medal winners are an indication that on a certain day, a certain whisky was tasted amongst others and it stood out. An opinion. A guide.

Where to buy as well. Your local whisky purveyor may have some advice or even tastes available. Tinternet is for price only. Get acquainted with your local store, start a conversation and build a relationship. You never know, you might get a nod when something special comes in.

You may have noticed I have not named any whisky, any from our extensive range at Wolfburn would be a fitting gift but half the fun is the search and the other half drinking it, sharing a dram, sharing a memory and enjoying the celebration.
